A Note From Emily
“You’ll grow beautifully in your own way”
These words have a very special place in my heart. Here’s the backstory.
Finding myself in a slump during my first big individual competition and things going far from the way I had hoped, my daughter handed me a beautifully painted rock that she had found outside of our hotel. These were the words that I found staring back at me in that moment of disappointment and frustration. I was reminded that everything will happen in its own time and that I needed to appreciate my own path — no one else's.
I was competing in back-to-back weekends and the following week, found myself in yet again the same situation. I was sad, frustrated, exhausted, and quite frankly - giving up. As if she was a little angel sent from heaven, my daughter handed me a little plastic pink butterfly that she had found on the ground earlier that day. With no understanding of the significance of what it represented, to her it was just a kind gesture to comfort her mother, but was actually another reminder of what I had so easily forgotten. A butterfly patiently awaits its own transformation and grows beautifully in its own time.
Turns out I wasn’t behind — I was right on time.
I hope that my collection serves to you as a reminder of what we so easily forget. It’s so easy to get caught up in comparison. There will always be someone doing better than you or doing more than you, and it’s so easy to get caught up in where we want to be that we forget to appreciate exactly where we are. So here’s to meeting yourself where you’re at and enjoying the journey, the mistakes, the small victories, the in between that often gets missed.
