Waist:
Measure around the middle of your natural waistline, this should be approximately around where your belly button sits or just above.
Hips:
Measure around the widest part of your hips, making sure the tape measure is sitting straight around the largest part of your bum.

At the very end of the walk after a well deserved meal the waistband did start to dig in but I think that I was swollen. Looking forward to wearing them again. They are the right amount of compression too. I'm normally an 8-10 and the XS just fit me."

I like the 7/8 length but they are pretty long on me at 164cm, they only leave a little gap of leg at the bottom. The only thing I would advise is to make sure you find the right size as the seam that wraps around the inner thigh can dig in if they are too small other than that they are fab!"
